Scripture: Galatians 3:23-29 (NKJV)

3:23 But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. 24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Devotion

Through faith we are all made sons of God through Christ Jesus. Faith has come in the washing and renewal of the Holy Ghost through the water connected to God’s Word in Holy Baptism. Those who are baptized have put on the Christ. We are all one in Christ Jesus; there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female. We are all united in Christ. Faith leads us to the Christ.

The Law tutored us that when we examine ourselves according to the tenets of the Law, we see how miserably insufficient we are to obtain any amount of righteousness. The Law shows us our sin. It shows us that we are poor, miserable sinners in need of the Lord God’s grace. The Law shows us that we cannot save ourselves by our own works and merits. The Law drives us away from looking inside ourselves for salvation, and drives us to the One who perfectly fulfilled the Law, and won salvation for us on the tree of the holy cross.

Through faith we have inherited a place in the family of the Lord God. We are now spiritually Abraham’s seed, and also Christ’s. The promise was made to Abraham that his offspring would be as numerous as the sand on the seashore. We are a part of that family. It is an eternal family of all who cling in faith to the Lord Jesus.

Prayer: Grant, we beseech Thee, Almighty God, that we who have celebrated the solemnities of the Lord’s Resurrection, may, by the help of Thy grace, bring forth the fruits thereof in our life and conversation; through the same Jesus Christ, Thy Son, our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, ever One God, world without end. Amen.
